Also known by its acronym EGS, enhanced geothermal systems use rock and water technologies deep within the earth to produce energy; this system makes use of hot dry rocks with little or no water source by drilling boreholes one side and out the other side of the designated hot dry rock formation. Cold water is then injected into one borehole and as it travels through the hot dry rock, it accumulates heat. The heated liquid is then extracted from the other borehole and the heat is used to provide energy to a generator power plant.
