Ebola virus disease
Ebola virus disease is the name for the human virus infection and disease that is caused by any of four of the five known ebola viruses. These four viruses are: Bundibugyo virus, Ebola virus, Sudan virus, and Taï Forest virus.
The Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a viral fever, and is almost indistinguishable from Marburg virus infection. The name comes from Ebola River in Republic of the Congo where it was first found.
All Ebola viruses are highly infectious as well as contagious.
In 2012 this SEBO virus had 36 human cases, 16 people died, the case-fatality rate is 44%. A study reported that outbreaks of Ebola resulted in the deaths of 5000 gorillas.
The Congos last big Ebola virus epidemic killed over 245 people in the year 1995. Another big epidemic was in August 2007, 300km north from the 1995 epidemic.
