An expression used to prefix an ATC request when it is relayed to an aircraft by someone other than the air traffic controller who made the request.

(1) Canada : Renseignements météorologiques à court terme destiné principalement aux aéronefs en vol, pour aviser les pilotes des conditions météorologiques potentiellement dangereuses non décrites dans la zone actuelle, prévisions et ne nécessitant ne pas un SIGMET. Les critères d'émission d'un AIRMET sont le développement imprévu, dissipation ou ne survienne pas de prévision (une) instrument des conditions météorologiques (IMC): cassé ou ciel couvert de nuages condition à moins de 1000 pieds AGL et/ou visibilité inférieure à 3 SM ;
(b) verglaçantes (ne nécessitant pas un SIGMET) ;
(c) glaçage modérée ;
(d) turbulence modérée ;
(e) les orages (isolés par opposition à une ligne) ;
(f) une augmentation de la surface moyenne du vent sur une grande surface à 20 kt, ou plus, ou une augmentation des rafales à 30 kt ou plus, lorsqu'aucun des vents n'étaient initialement prévus ; ou (g) une différence entre les prévisions et le vent observé direction supérieure à 60°.
(2) US: Avis de conditions météorologiques en vol délivrés uniquement pour modifier la zone de prévisions concernant les phénomènes météorologiques qui présentent un intérêt opérationnel pour tous les aéronefs et potentiellement dangereuse pour les aéronefs ayant une capacité limitée à cause du manque d'équipement, les instruments ou les qualifications des pilotes. (1) Canada: Short-term meteorological information intended primarily for aircraft in flight, to notify pilots of potentially hazardous weather conditions not described in the current area forecast and not requiring a SIGMET. The criteria for issuing an AIRMET are the unforeseen development, dissipation or non-occurrence of forecast
(a) instrument meteorological conditions (IMC): broken or overcast cloud condition at less than 1000 ft AGL and/or visibility less than 3 SM;
(b) freezing precipitation (not requiring a SIGMET);
(c) moderate icing;
(d) moderate turbulence;
(e) thunderstorms (isolated as opposed to a line);
(f) an increase in the surface mean wind over a large area to 20 kt or more, or an increase in gusts to 30 kt or more, when no winds were originally forecast; or
(g) a difference between the forecast and observed wind direction greater than 60°.
(2) U.S.: In-flight weather advisories issued only to amend the area forecast concerning weather phenomena which are of operational interest to all aircraft and potentially hazardous to aircraft having limited capability because of lack of equipment, instrumentation, or pilot qualifications. AIRMETs concern weather of less severity than that covered by SIGMETs or convective SIGMETs. AIRMETs cover moderate icing, moderate turbulence, sustained winds of 30 kt or more at the surface, widespread areas of ceilings less than 1000 ft and/or visibility less than 3 mi., and extensive mountain obscurement.
